How to turn a hobby into a business

Running a business is a challenge even for the most talented entrepreneurs, because it is a time and energy consuming activity. This is why you should enjoy what you are doing. There are many people who believe that owning a small business is just a matter of getting a good idea and investing money in it, but that is not the case. When you launch a business on the market, irrespective of its type and operating domain, you have to be prepared to spend a lot of time and effort thinking about every detail involved in the management of a business in general and especially about its promotion, even though we talk about a small business. This was also the case when I first started my own business. I started a business in a domain in which I specialize: League of Legends. As you probably know LoL is one of the most played games in the world right now and I have always been a big fan, so I started to think that should take advantage of its huge popularity and  start selling Riot Points, LoL accounts, rare skins, referrals and other things that I owned after five years of intensive playing. The reason why I believe that passion is essential in running a business is because of my own experience.

In order to turn hobbies into a business you first need to make sure that you have potential customers and that you can offer high quality services or products. The hardest part for me after launching my online platform was not getting the Riot Points, rare skins and raising accounts to a satisfactory level to ensure people would buy them, but advertising it and making people trust the quality of my services, because I enjoy playing League of Legends too much. Spending time in the game is something I already did every day, not to mention that I enjoy playing form different accounts and raising Riot Points. For the last five years I had already created numerous accounts for my own satisfaction without even thinking about selling them. This is why this part of my business plan is going smoothly. However, making the business profitable also meant to increase my online exposure. This is the hardest part for me, because I am not very good at advertising. It took me a year for LoL fans that used my services to refer me to their friends, so the popularity of my website increased quite slowly, but I do not complain, because right now I have a steady income and I do what I like every day.

All in all, I believe that the secret behind a successful business lies in the effort the owner makes to make it work. This is why businesses that start out of passion for a thing are the ones that gain leading positions on the market. When passion is involved, the difference is visible, because the owner of that business will not mind spending time and effort on something he enjoys doing.
